牛膝（亦称怀牛膝），苋科，系多年生草本植物。又称山苋菜、对节菜、积名牛茎。根呈园柱形，茎有棱角，节部膨大，状似牛的膝盖，故称牛膝。 点击此处添加图片说明 牛膝，在四州、湖北、陕西等省均有生产，但怀牛膝质量最佳，数量也居全国之首，1959年，曾占全国总产量的46%。怀牛膝因产于历史上的怀庆府而得名，位于今河南焦作一带。怀牛膝的特点是：条子粗壮、明亮、色泽鲜艳、油性多。
